Sustainable Land Management, Policy and Law, Climate Change

The St Andrews Prize for the Environment, 2001

I am currently pursuing an interest in how the international Environmental Law regime can part offer possibilities and solutions for sustainable environment management in the light of sovereignty and other pressing global challenges; including the menace of climate change. I am particularly concerned about transboundary resources: forest assets and waters and their potential in causing intractable political and resource-based conflicts. One initial focus area is how domestic and international law norms can be used to strengthen the unsavory politics that has intermittently surrounded Kenya's Mau Forest. The other is the long-standing environmental menace around the Lake Victoria waters and how this impacts the entire region called East Africa. www.octawns.co.ke
