As a non-professional in the energy field, I came to play a key role in Austria’s “no” to nuclear power in the 1978 referendum on the country's first and ready-to-operate Zwentendorf NPP, and during the 1980s in the cross-border fight against planned nuclear waste reprocessing at Wackersdorf, Germany. As president of the Salzburg Platform against Nuclear Hazards (PLAGE), I was involved in several campaigns that led to the Nuclear-Free Austria Constitutional Law and the Austrian Nuclear Liability Law in 1999. My main focuses over the past two decades have been the revision/abolition of the EURATOM Treaty, and EU nuclear policy in general. This goes together with efforts toward a Non-Nuclear Countries Coalition (KOALA/NoNuCC), partly taken up by the Austrian government. Together with specialist in international environmental law Prof. Jon Van Dyke (USA), I edited the book "Updating International Nuclear Law" in 2007. My wife and I live in Salzburg, while our two adult sons live and work in France and Germany, respectively.
