Balbir Singh Seechewal is a famous environmentalist, who was praised by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the former president of India, as the preacher of “A Noble Mission”. The international Time Magazine acclaimed Singh Seechewal as “The Hero of Environment”. He is chairman of the Ek Onkar Charitable Trust Seechewal and member of the Punjab Pollution Control Board. In 2012 he was awarded with the D. Litt. Degree honoris causa by the Punjabi University Patiala.
