Qayum Ali Shah

Qayum Ali Shah has a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Pakistan and a Master’s degree from Canada in Planning. He is currently heading the Building and Construction Improvement Programme (BACIP), which is operational in northern parts of Pakistan. It deals with housing-related issues, in particular cold, smoke, space planning and earthquake resistance of the non-engineered housing units. BACIP has successfully introduced a range of thermal insulation techniques, fuel efficient and energy-efficient cook stoves and other products. BACIP has won a number of international awards including the prestigious Ashden Awards 2011, Global Leadership Award 2009 for clean indoor air, Energy Globe Award 2008, UN Habitat Award 2006 and Al Can Prize for sustainability 2005.
