Hans-Werner Schock worked on the development of thin-film solar cells at the University of Stuttgart since the early 1970s. A series of R&D projects under his guidance resulted in several production lines for thin film solar cells in Europe. From 2004 to 2012 he was director of the Institute of Technology at the "Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie" and he is Honorary Professor at TU Berlin, Germany. Schock received the "Becquerel Prize" of the EU in 2010. In addition he was awarded Dr. h.c. from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia in 2013 . Since his retirement from Helmholtz Centre Berlin he works as consultant for PV technologies.
