Julien Meyer is both bio acoustician and linguist. His research is focused on human language, including the relation between language and natural rural environments. He currently runs the”Icon-Eco-Speech” project with a European Marie Curie grant. He develops research about biodiversity assessment with acoustic and linguistic means. Meyer is the co-founder of the non-profit association ”The World Whistles” created to contribute to documentation, safeguarding and transmission of the oral patrimony of the endangered languages using whistled and instrumental speech.
