William Rees, ecological economist, is Professor Emeritus and former director of the University of British Columbia’s School of Community and Regional Planning in Vancouver, Canada. The originator of eco-footprint analysis, he has an extensive opus of peer-reviewed articles on the biophysical prerequisites for sustainability in an era of accelerating ecological change. In 2007 he was awarded a prestigious Trudeau Foundation Fellowship; in 2012 an Honorary Doctorate from Laval University, the Boulding Memorial Award of the International Society for Ecological Economics and a Blue Planet Prize.
