Dr. Wolfgang E. Burhenne

Wolfgang E. Burhenne undertakes, in addition to his professional activities, honorary functions including Executive Governor of the International Council of Environmental Law (ICEL) and Deputy Chair of the Elizabeth Haub Foundations for Environmental Law and Policy. He was longtime Chair of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, founder of the IUCN Environmental Law Centre and has been directly involved in nearly all major international conventions concerned with conservation. He has won several renowned awards, for example Knight Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the International Environ-mental Law Award.
