Susanne Heisse lives as an environmental activist since almost 30 years amongst the Maya indigenous people of the Highlands of Guatemala. She coordinates the Pura Vida Atitlan Movement, which mainly works in consciousness shifts, environmental/nutritional education and action in the 500 public schools around Lake Atitlan. She is the inventor of the eco brick and its construction system which transforms plastic waste into construction materials for communal buildings and the author of several handbooks for recycling, healthy schools, and nutrition and school gardens.
