Whitley Awards

Whitley Fund for Nature

Gain recognition as an outstanding conservationist who is making a real and long-lasting difference on the ground!

The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), a UK registered charity offers ‘Whitley Awards’ to dynamic grassroots conservation leaders around the world. Whitley Awards include an international profile boost and project funding of £35,000 over one year. The Awards champion passionate leaders who are effective communicators working in biodiversity rich, but resource and capacity poor nations. The Awards are aimed at nationals of non “High Income Countries” (as defined by the World Bank). Applications open annually in July/August and close at the end of October; during this period, application forms and guidance notes can be downloaded from www.whitleyaward.org. The Awards recognise leaders whose projects address biodiversity conservation issues, show evidence of proven success and future sustainability as well as potential for replication and scalability. Community involvement and science/evidence-based approaches are very important components of project design to deliver measurable impact for real change. The Awards are presented at the Whitley Awards Ceremony in spring and winners join an Alumni network with opportunities to share ideas, results and apply for further WFN funding. Since 2001, WFN’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, has presented our internationally recognised Awards – often referred to as “Green Oscars” and supported byWFN Trustee Sir David Attenborough who often narrates Awardees’ films.
